Nicholas J. Dost, 42, of Marshalltown, Iowa, and formerly of Ames, Iowa, died unexpectedly on Monday, April 4, 2022.
Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2022, at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2524 Hoover Avenue, Ames, IA 50010, with a reception to follow. Condolences may be expressed online at www.amesmonument.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Nick's name may be directed to the family.
Nicholas James Dost was born August 11, 1979, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Daryl George Folk and Frieda Mae Dost. He graduated from Nevada High School in 2000, then earned two associates degrees at DMACC and Kirkwood Community College. Nick furthered his studies online through Colorado Technical University and obtained his master's degree in Information Technology.
Nick loved life and joking with people. He had a nice stubborn streak, a heart for animals, and was an amateur ham radio operator and computer guru.
Survivors include his mother, Frieda Dost of Ames; a brother, Raymond Folk of Ames; his paternal grandparents, George and Berniece Folk of Milbank, SD; as well as aunts, uncles, and other extended family members.
Nick was preceded in death by his father; maternal grandparents, Henry and Marie Dost; and an aunt, Barbara Lofton.
Ames Monument & Cremation Center has been entrusted with the care of Nick and his family.
Someone has supported the family by purchasing them flowers or gifts from the Healing Registry.
When visiting during Hazelton-Miller annual family picnics, Nick loved talking sports and playing horseshoes with the guys (and gals). He was always eager to participate.

Nick is well loved and will be missed by his acting step father (dean miller)and his sisters Diane and Janice and families from Minnesota where he visited every year since he was 8 years old.
