Katherine Young, age 82, of Ames, Iowa, died Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
A Celebration of Life service is being planned and will be announced, with inurnment in Violet Hills Cemetery in Perry, Iowa. Condolences may be expressed online at www.amesmonument.com.
Katherine Ann Young was born February 12, 1939, in Perry, Iowa, to James William and Evelyn Dorothea (Hohanshelt) Strait. She grew up in Perry and graduated from Perry High School in 1957. Katherine was an avid reader and always dreamed of writing a novel, but felt she lacked the life experience to accomplish that goal.
She was gifted with a green thumb and enjoyed flower gardening as well as her various collections, including teddy bears and crocks. She will be remembered for her kind heart, which extended to her love of people and animals. Katherine was very social and made friends wherever she went. She enjoyed close family ties with her mother's and father's large extended families.
Survivors include her husband, Alvie; two children, Julie (Bud) Wood of Webster City and their children Katherine and Anna, and Scott (Susan) Young of Davenport and their children Connor and Lauren; a brother-in-law, Craig Young of Audubon; as well as other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Ames Monument & Cremation Center has been entrusted with the care of Katherine and her family.
