Born September 19, 1956, in Hartford, Connecticut, John Howard Denny was one of three sons born to Howard and Marie (Sirois) Denny. He graduated from Northampton High (1975) where he was a varsity member of the lacrosse team and where he was a popular and devoted friend and developed many cherished lifelong relationships.
He was employed for many years as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Patriots. John's dog, Nova, was a constant and faithful companion and support.
John suffered a major life changing medical event in October 2019, that left him disabled. As a result, John moved to an assisted living facility in Story City, Iowa, in January so he could receive the long-term care that his rehabilitation would require and to be closer to his family.
Survivors include his brother, James (Sara Reece) Denny of Ames, IA; his niece and nephew, Emma (Kyle Huseth) Denny of Minneapolis, MN, and Kellen (Lily) Denny of Atlanta, GA; and many loving cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tom Denny.

Hi John and I were friends while he lived in Ri back in the 90’s. We would go walking almost everyday while he was on strike. We dragged each other out for breakfast lunch and dinners. I even dragged him Emma and kellen to water country one year. He was a great friend full of life John will you greatly missed! I am so sorry for your loss
I met John while he was living at Cedar Place in Story City. He was so friendly and always caring about all of my family members. He would ask about each person every time we met outside or in the lobby. He made friends with my 6 year old grand daughter. They enjoyed chatting each time she came to visit. He remembered her for her 6th birthday as it was her golden birthday. When she heard of his passing she remarked that she would really miss her special friend John. She also remarked that she was sure he was going to be a great helper in heaven. The entire family are glad we had the opportunity to make friends with John. He will be missed.

I am sure we haven't seen one another ( since graduation night , from John M. Greene Hall. I would certainly be interested to know how you guys ended up in Iowa. Our lives seem to take us ' all ' in so many directions and paths. Mom passed two years ago at 98 and I ' still ' have Dad God bless him at 99 & 9 months, !Unbelievable!
I am not positive but thought I remember John played soccer with us, when My Dad was our coach, just like he was when we both played Little League. Like me Jim, I remember you were a little speedster like me..... Ahh ' so many ' years ago . Again Jim, My sincere sadness for John. I ' do believe ' we shall all be together again some day ! My email, should you ever be interested, but no obligation, is firstname.lastname@example.org Aloha, my old friend
John and I were best friends for a couple of years during grade school- we had many adventures. My condolences to all those who are grieving his passing.
Sorry to hear. John always had a smile and good words to say. May he rest in peace.
Love and prayers to you all.
A great loss way to early.
I met John in 7th grade and could tell that he was a good soul and a solid person from the get go. I have many fond memories with John, some our best to stay betwween us. We had many hours of fun playing football at Arcanum field. John enjoyed the controlled, aggressive style as most of us did. The many nights going to Friendlys after a school dance are still etched in my memory. Our fathers were also friends. Howie's optical business was on my dad's mail delivery route. They were pals for more years than I can imagine. My father was a mailman for thirty three years. I am saddened, yet there is comfort knowing John is now with loved ones and friends. My heartfelt condolence to the family. We have another angel looking down on us! Richard T. LaFlamme
John’s father and my father(John Lenkowski) were lifelong friends. I always remembered John as an easygoing guy who was very friendly to everybody. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. Steve Lenkowski
During a visit to Ames, John enjoyed his visit to Steve’s farm, and we enjoyed him! We always appreciated his particular interest in our family, and his extended family as well, as evidenced at his nephew’s wedding. Our sincere condolences to Jim, Sara and family.
Jim, so sorry to here about john, just talked to him Christmas Day, he was looking forward to celebrating Monday with you and sara. My deepest sympathies . Jeff & Sue Walker
I went to school with John. He was such a great guy and seemed to take care of everyone. He was a kind soul. He will be missed. Rest in peace John. 💔
John was my first prom date, making him my first date ever. We all piled into his family station wagon and he took such good care of us that night, and remained a true friend and gentleman throughout our high school and adult lives. Just the memory of his bellowing laugh stirs my heart and soul. He cared deeply. He loved deeply. Now he is in a resting place where that devotion can be returned to him one hundred fold. Jimmy and Sara you did all the right things to keep John close to you these last few years and John often expressed his gratitude. May his love and laughter shine down on us always. We love you John.
While it has been years since I’ve seen John, I have many happy memories of him and his late brother, Tom. Both were kind men and loved all kinds of sports. RIP John. Tom is there to greet you.
My condolences to the Denny family we grew up together when doors were open and neighbors walked in each other's house at any time. We spent many hours together on Norwich lake water skiing. I should say they water skied and I fell. Never forget the time when we were all kids and we packed into the Denny station Wagon went to McDonald's. I was a picky eater as a kid and Mr. Denny went in At least 5 times get my order correct. Or the hours spent on BlackBerry lane watching patriots games. Even the 85 Super Bowl. Rest in peace my old friend.
I worked with John, over 15 years for CF, as a road driver. John was not only a great co worker, but also became a great friend! Rest in Peace John...God Bless you!
John will be greatly missed at Cedar Place. He was always a bright spot with his smile and laughter.
