Bruce Joseph Bronson, age 70, of Ames, Iowa, and formerly of Albuquerque, NM, died January 19, 2020, at Stratford Specialty Care in Stratford, Iowa. Per his wishes, Bruce has been cremated; a private service will be held for him in New Mexico. Condolences may be expressed online at www.amesmonument.com.
Born November 5, 1949, in Charlotte, Michigan, Bruce was the son of Hubert S. and Doris "Ruth" (Beck) Bronson. Bruce served in the United States Navy as a submariner from 1976 to 1981. He earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of New Mexico in 1987. Bruce spent most of his adult life in New Mexico. However, he was well-traveled as both a youth and an adult, having lived for several years each in a variety of other states and countries.
Bruce worked in various capacities during his lifetime, mainly as a computer programmer in the electronics industry. He was fond of nature and spent much of his free time as an adult in the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico. There he enjoyed hiking and camping, and, at the arts community there, developed an affinity for carving and making bronze statues. He also enjoyed making pottery and entertaining friends with his juggling skills.
Bruce is survived by his father; siblings Richard Bronson of Henrico, VA, and Charlotte Bronson of Ames; several nieces and nephews; as well as other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth, and his older sister, Joan Gaita.
Ames Monument & Cremation Center has been entrusted with the care of Bruce and his family.
